North-west Sardinia / Independent travel guide

Alghero, at your own pace.

Old-town evenings. Long beach mornings. A coast worth slowing down for.

Choose where you want to wake up, connect your airport arrival, then build a few coastal days around the weather. Start with the base, and the rest of Alghero becomes easier.

01Evenings on foot

Centro storico

A strong starting point if dinner, the waterfront and old-town wandering matter more than stepping straight onto sand. Match the room location to your evening routine, then plan beach days separately.

02Beach-led stays

Lido / Maria Pia

Compare the Lido and Maria Pia area when beach time is the main event. Look at the actual distance between the accommodation, beach entrance and the restaurants you will use; this is a long coastal stretch.

Check before booking

Check the walking route to the old town, evening transport and whether the room is on a busy road. Do not treat every property labelled Alghero as beachfront.

03A quieter small base

Fertilia

Consider Fertilia if you prefer a smaller settlement rather than an old-town address. Make the local evening your default, with Alghero and nearby beaches as planned outings.

Check before booking

Confirm the current bus stop and return service if travelling without a car. Check food options for your dates instead of assuming summer opening all year.

04Coast and outdoor days

Porto Conte

Use Porto Conte as a starting point for a stay centred on scenery, coastal outings and time outside town. Choose the precise locality and property first: the area name alone is too broad for an arrival plan.

Check before booking

Check parking or a workable transfer, nearby food and the meeting point for any excursion. A Porto Conte stay does not automatically include cave access or a boat departure.

Alghero

A flexible three-day starting plan

  1. Day 01

Arrive, settle into your chosen base and keep the first evening local.

  2. Day 02

Choose a beach or coastal outing that fits the day’s conditions and your return transport.

  3. Day 03

Use the flexible day for Porto Conte or the cave if access is operating; otherwise spend longer in town.
